At the meeting of the Public Council at the office of an Ombudsman Mr. Vladimir Ushakov informed the members of the council of the results of work of the Ombudsman, members of his office and representatives of the Ombudsman on the matters of cases of complaints about the violations of rights and freedoms of citizens in 2011. Ombudsman has also spoken about cooperation with the institutions of government and civil society last year, and declared major objectives of work for the year 2012, as well as answered the questions of the members of Council.

At the Council meeting Alexander Shmishlyayev, a member of the Public Monitoring Commission on observation of human rights in the correctional institutions presented a report about the activities of the Commission in 2011.

The members of the Public Council have also discussed the issues of formation of a Public Chamber of Primorsky krai and suggested governor Mikhail Miklushevsky to form a system of expert councils.

In accordance with the Provisions of the Public Council the Ombudsman has introduced new members into the Council. Dritry N. Grigorovich becomes one those, he is the head of the Primorsky krai Provincial Council on matters of veterans of war and labor, military and law-enforcement institutions. The major objectives of functioning of this organization is to involve the veterans into an active social and political life, to initiate projects that promote patriotism among younger generations, and to support local chapters of this and other organizations of veterans.

Artem S. Moiseenko becomes another member of Council. Artem is the head of “Kovcheg”, an NGO that promotes the cause of people with spinal disabilities. The problems of people with disabilities is one of the greatest social challenges of Russia. In 2000 a group of people with disabilities, having organized the founding conference, has established “Kovcheg” as an organization that would unite people with spinal disabilities. Currently “Kovcheg” is one of the most active and authoritative NGOs of people of disabilities not only in the Russian Far East, but also in the whole country.
